Ja Rule "Rule 3-36" Album Review

Ja Rule - Rule 3:36
After his successful debut, Ja Rule didn't take no time whipping up his second album. "Rule 3:36" spawned the hit singles, "Between Me and You" and "Put It on Me." It was released in Fall of 2000. Can Ja do it again and release another very solid effort or will he fall to the sophomore curse?

Wow I can't believe my ears, Ja Rule sold out big time! He almost dropped his whole street style completely and pretty much filled this album with all commercialized pop-rap music. Some of it is good no doubt but this isn't an album you can bump and nod your head to. Good for a couple listens then probably never again. Mannn Ja what happened to you?

In 1998, he was signed to Def Jam Recordings, with his first major appearance alongside Jay-Z on the song "Can I Get A...". In 1999, he released his solo debut, Venni Vetti Vecci, and had a hit single "Holla Holla". The album went on to platinum status. In 2000, Atkins was also featured on Irv Gotti's successful album, Irv Gotti Presents... The Murderers. This album featured other Murder Inc. record label artists as well as DMX, Jay-Z and Busta Rhymes. In 2000 Atkins released Rule 3:36, his second album. The first released single was "Between Me & You" featuring Christina Milian, which proved to be a hit and was followed by another successful single, "Put It On Me" featuring Lil' Mo and Vita. The album received an unexpected level of support, and went on to go triple platinum. On October 2, 2001, Atkins released his third album, Pain Is Love. The first single, "Livin' It Up", was a hit. It featured guest vocals by R&B singer Case and sampled Stevie Wonder's "Do I Do". The follow up single, "Always On Time", was released in December of the same year and was yet another success. The song introduced the public to singer Ashanti, who performed the chorus. The album also featured the successful remix "I'm Real" with Jennifer Lopez. Finally, the album included the song "So Much Pain", a tribute to Tupac Shakur, and also went on to become triple platinum. His fourth studio album, The Last Temptation, was released on November 19 2002. Although the album was fairly successful (it was certified platinum), it failed to carry the momentum brought by his previous album. Lead singles, "Thug Lovin" (featuring Bobby Brown) and "Mesmerize" (featuring Ashanti) were successful. In 2002, Atkins appeared on Irv Gotti Presents The Inc and Irv Gotti Presents: the Remixes. Both albums were successful, spawning such hits as "Down 4 U" and "Ain't It Funny Remix." Atkins' fifth album, Blood in My Eye, was known for tracks which were aimed at rappers 50 Cent, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Busta Rhymes, Diddy, and Snoop Dogg. Atkins released R.U.L.E. on November 9, 2004, and had hits with "Wonderful" (featuring R. Kelly), "New York" (featuring Fat Joe and Jadakiss), and "Caught Up" (featuring Ashanti & Lloyd). The album was certified gold in the U.S. Atkins recently released new tracks from his upcoming mixtape on his myspace page. The mixtape features contributions from artists such as Ashanti, Fat Joe, Nas, Black Child, Caddillac Tah and 0-1, as well as brand new signees Harry O, Young Life and The Gift. He also is releasing his first single from his upcoming album, The Mirror, titled "Free". He appeared on the remix of "Rakata" by Wisin Y Yandel. Atkins is rumored to be in the upcoming movie Saw IV. It's being filmed as of April 16, 2007 in Toronto and is scheduled to be released October 26, 2007. *BROUGHT TO YOU BY thenewXAVTHATHUGGIST*

Eightball and MJG "Lyrics of A Pimp" Album Review

Decent release of early Ball & G material - barely 4 stars
For starters this isn't really a new Eightball & MJG album, it's mostly songs the 2 recorded in the early 90's and a few of the tracks are on their earlier albums as well. Each of the 2 are on 10 songs, and each member has 3 solo's on here (Eightball's are much better if you ask me). Guests are minimal, on 3 songs (and the re-release of this has 2 solo's by other artists). Of the 15 songs (I'm reviewing the re-release), 2 or 3 I skip, 4 or 5 are ok, 1 is almost a classic, and the other 7 are good. Production is pretty good, a few low spots and no production credits are given. if you're a huge fan cop this, but of the 6 of their group albums I have and 4 solo's, it's in the bottom third.

#2 - 7 (MJG & 8 ball)
#3 - 7.5 (killa be, mjg, 8ball)
#4 - 5.5 (MJG -- dirty song)
#5 - 8 (killa bee, mjg, 8ball)
#6 - 8 (psycho, 8ball, mjg -- smokin song)
#7 - 7.5 (MJG)
#8 - 9 (8ball -- tight beat)
#9 - 9.5 (8ball -- another tight beat -- my favorite on here)
#10 - 9 (8ball -- upbeat song)
#11 - 6 (MJG & 8Ball)
#12 - 8 (remix of #2 -- better beat)
#13 - 7 (MJG)
#14 - 8 (8Ball & MJG)
#15 - 8 (Patty Man)
#16 - 4 (Kool ACE)

Eazy-E "It's on 187um Killa" Album Review

The ultimate diss album
This entire album is every bit as infectious as Dr. Dre's productions (The Chronic, Doggystyle). As far as being a "diss" album it's lyrically superior to the Chronic.

I've never cared much for any of Eazy E's other solo albums but this one is a masterpiece.

Eazy-E "Eazy" Album Review

He Was Once A Thug From Around The Way {4 Stars}
I remember sneaking into my bedroom and listening to albums like this on my walkman because the lyrics were a little too blue for my moms taste. Even my dad didn't want me hearing this and he was the one that put me on to Redd Foxx. In hindsight, I'd have to say that this album was worth all the risk. But because an album was tight when you were in high school or college doesn't make it classic. I think a lot of people believe an album is classic simply because it's old. This album is definitely dope though. There ARE some classic joints to be found on this album. Tracks like "Boyz N The Hood (Remix)", "Eazy-er Said Than Dunn", "We Want Eazy", and "Eazy Duz It" are all classics that are still bangin' today and joints like "No More ?'s" and "Ruthless Villain" are tight as well.

There are a few suspect tracks that keep this album from achieving classic status. Tracks like "Still Talkin'", "Eazy-Chapter 8 Verse 10", and "Nobody Move" don't really go anywhere and come off as really forgettable while "I'ma Break It Down" is just plain boring.

Overall, the album is dope and is definitely worth owning. This disc falls short of classic, but the bangers on here make this album more than worth the money. If you're into old school or if you haven't heard these songs, then I recommend picking this one up. Also, if you can't find 5150: Home 4 Tha Sick then getting this is probably the closest you'll come to getting it since it's out of print now.

Standout Tracks: Radio, Boyz N The Hood (Remix), Ruthless Villain, We Want Eazy, Eazy Duz It, No More ?'s, and Eazy-er Said Than Dunn (My Favorite)
